Recently, content companies have started to give away free web-space and hosting tools to individuals to use for media production. This creation and distribution of content between individuals is called "Web 2.0."
Many people believe that as the popularity of "Web 2.0" increases, the popularity and traditions of "mass media," decreases. I agree that the future of media production lies equally in the hands of pimple-faced, technological savvy 13 year-olds and large corporate media firms.
This change in media has forced even the large traditional corporate media firms, like Microsoft are getting into the action..."to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks". These media firms are competing for users and by adding additional incentives to their to attract users the media firms hope to out-do already established competitors.
Web 2.0 is increasingly using the idea of a social network to draw customers. Therefore, Web 2.0 is causing a shift in audience control between the individuals and the mass media. This role reversal finally eliminates the age long advertising struggle of finding an audience, because the audience now finds the media.
Web 2.0 is also contributing by bringing the marketplace of ideas into the 21st century, by not only increasing in the number of voices heard, but also changing how they are expressed--case in point: Lonelygirl15, ‘Bree,’ the 16 year-old girl that has become a national phenomenon has voiced her opinions and beliefs on several topics that affect teenagers.
But, one of the biggest downfalls of this new technology is fraud, as is the case with ‘Bree’ who turned out to be Jessica, a 19 year-old girl suffering from a lack of ethics and morals, as well as a pretty decent politician…I mean liar ! Really, how bad would it suck to be Lonelygirl15 and have a
10 year kid poke holes in your lie?
And of course there are other concerns with Web 2.0, including: copyright and my personal pet peeve--stupid people, their idiotic opinions, and their prerogative to voice them! However the most recent cause for concern with the technology is security threats because with more people on the same server its easier for attackers to cause damage to a network in less time.

August 18th as rumor has it is significant because....Modern Christians are indebted to a St. Helena, the mother of Constantine the Great. St. Helena is credited with the finding of the True Cross; even in works of art she adorned with a crown and exalted as an empress.
Another nickname Christians have for St. Helena is "Stabularia," due to the church she built on the spot at Bethlehem where Jesus was born. However, the Jews, call her "Stabularia"because, supposedly, she was originally the daughter of an innkeeper.
And that is why August 18th is important...Just imagine our world without the invention of religion, most of the world's governments would crumble.
